Varsity Spirit Faces Lawsuit Over Chaos at NCA Nationals
Image via Paul LLP Trial Attorneys
π° The news: People who experienced the chaos at NCA All-Star Nationals in March have filed a lawsuit against Varsity Spirit and the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
Lawyers argue that insufficient security and emergency planning led to severe injuries, including concussions, brain bleeds, and broken bones, after reports of gunshots caused mass panic.
π Why it matters: With 25,000 athletes and 38,000 spectators, NCA Nationals is one of the largest events in cheerleading. The chaos highlighted serious gaps in crowd management and protocols.
People, including young athletes, suffered both physical and emotional trauma, with some still recovering. This lawsuit could prompt Varsity and other event organizers to reassess safety measures at major competitions.
π Whatβs next: A greater focus on safety policies has already been announced. As the case progresses, the industry will be watching closely for changes in event safety standards. More updates to come.

βοΈ Two Top Cheer Squads Are Not From the US, but Gosport in the UK [The Times]
"An industrial estate in Gosport surrounded by car repair workshops is the unlikely setting for not one but two world-leading cheerleading studios. Run by two married couples, the studios have a friendly rivalry and a determination to win that is putting the Hampshire town on the cheerleading map. Both won gold medals in different heats of a recent global competition in the United States." Read here.
